Bio-Leanna Salazar

Hi, im Leanna. And as you can see I attend Olympian High School as a sophmore. In the picture to the left, Nadia and I are both in our cheer uniforms. I was a OHS cheerleader last year. I never thought about doing cheer until my freshman year. At first, I wasn't sure if i'd be interested in the sport, but once I officially earned my spot in Jv, I clicked to it. When cheer season ended, I had to make a heart breaking decision. That decision was not to join my sophmore year. It was my final decision because I felt like I could get way better grades than I was when I was in cheer. But hopefully everything goes on track and I can continue doing what I love best senior year (:

A New School Year

My first week of school was not as stressful as I thought. I barely received any homework since most of my work that was assigned during the summer break was not due yet. Most of my teachers were nice and strict at the same time. They did not demand as much supplies as my teachers last year. In many of my classes we reviewed the college readiness skills and habits of mind. All in all this has been a great first week of school, even if it was only three days. This year I plan on managing my time more wisely and trying hard to succeed. I hope I will enjoy the rest of the school year.

Joseph Valentin Biography

My name is Joseph Valentin and I am one the three children of Dorothy and Jose Valentin. My younger siblings are Jennifer and David Valentin. I was born and raised in Yokosuka Japan on December 28, 1995. Being born in Japan does not make me Japanese. I was born there because my father was in the navy and worked on the military base. Five year later, I moved all the way to San Diego California. The schools I have attended were, Hancock Elementary, Arroyo Vista Charter, Eastlake middle and now Olympian High School. My hobbies are drawing, running, cooking and playing musical instruments including the acoustic guitar and keyboard. The type of drawings I enjoy are realistic drawings and manga. I have joined both the cross country and track teams. My favorite things cook are spaghetti and garlic bread. Finally, the type of music I enjoy playing are classical and video game themes.

Kiani Marie Williams

Hello, my name is Kiani Marie Williams. In the pictures above I am seen with my color guard family, ready to perform and just chilling out together. In the picture on the left, we are set for our first winterguard competition at Del Norte High School on February 12, 2011. At that particular competition I believe we got third... out of four. But hey, it was our first competition! What else did you expect? In the picture on the right, we are having a good time at Disneyland for our Band/Colorguard trip. It was so much fun spending time with my band and color guard friends and just chilling out after a year of hard work <3.The video above shows one of our best performances of the winterguard season, the competition at Mission Hills High School. We were extremely ecstatic and proud to receive first place. Our whole team felt the feeling of accomplishment and like our hard work finally paid off. Color guard isn't just a performing art. It's a sport. It's not as easy as it looks, it's not just throwing around a few flags, wooden guns, and metal swords. It's filled with eight hour practices, soar muscles, many injuries, and not to mention a ton of practicing. But don't get me wrong, it all pays off. You become so close with your team, you learn so many new skills, and it's just such a unique sport you won't find anything like it. I've grown really attached to Color guard, but I decided not to do it this year because I would like to go back to dancing <3, try some new things, and our team just won't be the same for some personal reasons. But I love color guard, and I am going to continue helping out and being involved with the guard even though I am not officially a part of the team.

My Opinion on ALP

In my honest opinion I'd have to say the (ALP) isn't very useful to teach. The reason I say that is because to me everything in the (ALP) is common sense. I don't think we should have to be pointed out every time we describe something that were describing something. I use the (ALP) daily and I don't have to be told that I'm using it all the time and that it helps us in college because we use it everyday in our lives since we were baby's. Basically I find that the ALP is useless to teach us but that's my opinion. ^~^

Back To School :D

My first week of school was awsome. Ive been missing most of  my friends that i didnt get to see during the summer which was the LADIES and im glad to be back and see what kind of adventures are going to be coming this year. My favorite part though of the first was was finding out that some over my best friends are in my classes. That is probably the best part to happen during the first day even of school.

Hey! My name is Sarah Mascardo and like the rest of the class, I'm a sophomore attending Olympian High. I'm a friendly/shy person at first, but once I get comfortable I'm realy talkative and out-going. I am currently in OHS's Academic League. Like most filipino's I was baptised Catholic and in the first grade my dad switched to Non-denominational Christianity. I grew up being a part of AWANA christian club, and when I grew out of the club I became a leader for the 3 and 4 year old age group. We are called Cubbies. (this explains the cartoon-looking image above) This will be my 4th year leading! I also started babysitting my younger niece when I was 12 so I know a thing or two about kids. (see picture to the right) Twelve years old is also when I began taking voice lessons, and I believe there's still plenty of room for improvement. I've always loved music and singing, especially in the shower because it sounds cool and echoy. My first and only real competition was the Filipina-Mexicana competition sponsored by Seafood City. I won third place and received money. I sang the opening national anthem for the California Highway Patrol at a fundraiser event and for my middle school promotion. I really enjoy learning new songs and puting my own style into them. When I get older I hope to continue singing and possibly become an elementary school teacher, baby nurse or have any occupation that involves helping people!

Bio- Melissa Leal

My name is Melissa Leal and I am currently a student at Olympian High School. I'm very outgoing, nice, and I can be really awkward at times! I love meeting new people and trying out new things. I'm open to anything and everything that I think is fun. I enjoy listening to music, talking to people, because I'm very social, and going to places. I'm a family orientated person and I love spending time with my family, as much as I love spending time with my best friends. In the future, I plan on graduating high school and getting into the medical field, as a nurse.

Bio: Nerizza Marie Manio (:

Hey everyone! I'm Nerizza Marie Yabut Manio! You can call me Neri, Izza, Nerizzle, Nerizz, Nerd Pizza or anything you can think of! I was born in the busy city of Angeles City, Philippines on July 16, 1996 at 6:40 am in Angeles University Foundation Hospital! I was the first grandchild in my mom's side of the family so I was very cared for and spoiled. I left the Philippines and came here when I was only 4 years old with my mom to be with my dad! I use to live in a small town near Bakersfield called Ridgecrest. I lived there since for about 3 years then my dad who is in the military got transferred to San Diego. I'm an only child but my life isn't as boring as everybody thinks. I'm now a typical 15 year-old girl who lives in Chula Vista! I go to Olympian High School and is currently a sophomore! I'm a pretty average girl who isn't really tall or short, somewhat long hair, my light/dark skin and my coffee colored eyes. My eyes are my features that show my Chinese/Japanese blood in me since everyone tells me I'm chinky. (: I'm a kind girl who doesn't really dislike people. I'm also a total optimist that always tries to smile everyday no matter what and I always want to bring a smile to the people around me. (: I'm very lovable, clever, independent, sincere and carefree! Yet I'm a very hardworking student when it comes to my schoolwork! I'm a total Asian when it comes to school work, a B is considered a fail for me. I try my best at everything and I have a total passion for fashion and photography! I would always make outfit sets online for possible outfits to wear and I'm hoping one day I can get those really nice professional Nikon cameras to take really good pictures that are photography-magazine perfect! My inspiration in life is Coco Chanel, the women behind the worldwide brand Chanel, she came from an orphanage and lived a hard life but she still manage to reach her dreams of being an amazing designer that many people admire! My life is full of adventures! Not just adventures with my friends but also with my family. I have a very close connection with my family. My family as in, not just my parents but my grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family. I'm an only child so my family that I live with just consist of my parents and me. No matter how embarrassing or awkward my family is, I love them with all my heart and I'm actually to say I'm proud I'm part of that family! My friends are basically my siblings. I have friends in different schools and they're all different in many ways. I don't have a group of friends that are all similar to me and we are all similar to each other. My friends are all different individually. Even if we don't like the same things the others like and sometimes we fight over things, we always find ways to come back to being great friends. This picture was taken on my 15th birthday! After I blew my candles on my cake, two of my best friends both took some white frosting off my cake and wiped the frosting on my face or as we call it "caked". My friend in the maroon colored tank is Korina Loren or Ko Ko who is an Olympian Eagle and Patricia Bianca or Patty who is wearing the blue plaid flannel, is a Morse Tiger! I've been knowing these two since when we were in 6th grade and Patty was back in 4th or 5th grade. After being caked my face felt sticky and weird but hey, it's a tradition with us friends to cake the birthday person! I have a lot of interest in many many things. Like world history, Korean dramas, basketball, volleyball, Kpop (Korean Pop), cooking, etc. Sometimes I'm even how do you say this, um, 4 dimensional? I'm sometimes in my own little world but I'm not a weirdo! >.< I can speak Tagalog(Filipino), of course, English, I'm in my 3rd year of Spanish and I'm learning how to speak, write, understand and read in Korean all by myself! It's been going pretty good and I can talk, write, understand and read in Korean bit by bit! My goals this year is to get really really good grades for all my classes and not slack off at all, to get into the girls JV basketball team and to spend time with a friend because we never spend anytime together. ); My dreams after high school is to get accepted into UC Berkeley, major in a course that I will enjoy, after several years of being a single lady with a college degree, hopefully I will find my prince charming, get married have two kids (hopefully twins a boy and a girl but we can't decide that. -sigh-) and raise my own family in New York City! No matter how expensive that city is, I want to get a good job and reach my dream! (:

Bio - Raul Arce

My name is Raul Arce, I am Mexican and have some French and Chinese form my mother side. I am 15 years old and I was born on May 5 1996 which is when the Mexican army defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla. I am now 5 foot 2" and weigh 90 Lbs. I speak Spanish, English, some Italian, and some French. My favorite hobby and sport is archery. I practice 1 time every week from 4-6 p.m. in the Olympic Training Center. The reason why I did not join the schools athletics team is because first of all, there is no archery team in the school. Also, because the schools money for athletics is basically run by the ASB which does not have to be because the students themselves could try and fund-raise the money and because the district could pay for them instead of the ASB, and they have all their rules and spirit packs that cost like 50$ for just 3 pieces of clothing which makes them richer and every time you buy from them they get 10% more greedier but that is just part of my theory on the conspiracy of ASB controlling the school money. In my free time I love to eat and sleep, I also love to breathe and live. One of my favorite activities is getting free stuff from the internets like; Minecraft, Pokemon, Sound Waves That Have Rythm, Images That Move And Can Be Played On Portable Games like a DS- for example- and play any game I want, and Moving Pictures That Play On A DVD Player (I'm not a h-ker im just to 1337). I use Ares to "get" the before mentioned items and, depending on what type of file it is I usually compress it using WinRAR. Also, things I enjoy watching on the internets is Nyan Cat and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and Anime! Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I read many genres except for romance and horror but anime and graphic novels are definitely included. When I grow-up I want to be a person, but more specifically: the President, or a lawyer that is not an attorney, or a chef, or a scientist. I like all thing that are kawaii!<3

A little about me(:

Hi, my name is Ailyn Angulo and i am 14 years old. I am a sophmore and i attend to Olympian High School. Some words that could describe me are nice, friendly, shy, and sometimes i can be quiet. I like to meet new people and make friends. Some things that i enjoy doing are singing, cooking, listening to music, going to the beach, swimming, and dancing. I dance ballet at Neisha's Dance Academy three times a week and when i grow up i want to be a professional ballerina, just like Paloma Herrera. She's my idol and i want to grow up to be just as good as her. I would also like to be a vetenarian or a cook. I love to work in the kitchen especially if it has to do with desserts. I am a mayor dessert lover(: So this is a little bit of who i am and what i like to do.

Bio - Alyssa Flores

My name is Alyssa Flores & I am currently a 14 year old sophomore. Growing up I have developed a love for swimming. Since elementary I have been on a swim team known as South Bay Aquatics. There, I learned the fundamentals of swimming & what it feels like to compete. Just last year, I started swimming for the OHS swim team and made it on to varsity as a top swimmer. Being a part of the team made me more competitive and gave me the drive to be one of the best. By the end of the season, I made it to championships where I won 3 silver medals & 1 bronze. I also received the most improved swimmer award for dropping as much as 10 seconds in an individual event. Being a swimmer has made me realize how much I love being in the water & how much potential I have to succeed in the sport. Swimming has taught me to be competitive, have good sportsmanship and how much hard work can really pay off. With this inner drive to win, I am now determined to reach my goal of qualifying for next season's CIF.
I am the shortest one in the picture above. (:

Bio: Katrina Gozun

Hello, my name is Katrina Gozun. I was born in New Jersey on March 28, 1996. I moved to California around 2000 and have been living in chula vista ever since. I'm a genuinely happy person, and I'm not hard to befriend. My music taste would be indie and alternative though I listen to various kinds of music as well. I am family orientated, faithful to my religion, and I love good company with friends and my "bobo". As a child I have always loved drawing and doing sketches. I won mayor's choice in chula vista's district art show for a self portrait I made in the 8th grade. Like many, I enjoy playing sports. Freshman year I was a long distance runner for the 2 mile in track. Currently I've been playing volleyball. I am determined to advance my skills as a volleyball player and hope to be good enough to make it into JV. I have several hobbies such as computer editing, photography, and baking.   In the future I plan on majoring in the medical field in hopes of becoming a physical therapist or nurse perhaps.

Melody's Biography

Hi! My name is Courtney Meru, but I go by "Melody", for two reasons. The first reason is because whenever I panic or get really nervous about something, I sing softly to calm myself down. I also rap too, only when I'm angry though. The second reason is because this was the third choice of name that my dad was going to choose for me, until my mom really wanted to name me Courtney. I have a Filipino, Spaniard, and Japanese heritage. (My mom is half Spanish & Filipino; My dad is mostly Japanese & Filipino). I only speak 3 languages: Arabic, English, and Spanish -- Yes, I do chat with Ms. Hadi sometimes, in Arabic.

Not only do I like singing, but I also love to box. I fell in-love with boxing at the age of 12. I train at a place called "Body By Bobbie", wear they offer MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and gym memberships. Boxing relieves all my stress from school, inspires me to work harder each day, and basically have fun training with the other boxers there. I was actually the first girl to join boxing, and train with the male-boxers there.

I like working independently on assignments. I actually like writing, more than reading. Poetry is my favorite style of writing, because it's very expressive. Auditory teachings, like lectures, are very helpful to me, because I am an auditory learner. I pick up things better when they are told to me.

San Diego is the city where I was born, and where I grew up my whole life. I like it here because the temperatures here are pretty decent , and I'm already used to San Diego's blazing summer weather. I went to Casillas Elementary, then to Salt Creek Elementary from fourth to sixth grade. The middle school I went to was Eastlake Middle. When I came to Olympian, it was actually really nice meeting tons of new people, during my freshman year.

Bio: Anjelique Matias

Hi everyone! My name is Anjelique but you can call me AJ or J. I get to blow out my candles on July 29. I'm a Navy child, so when i travel i meet so many icredible people that they make me remember the positive notes about being a daughter of a navy officer. My life is full of so many adventures that i can't keep count. Besides being an adventurous person, I love to do sports. It's as if they are a part of mt life that I can may never let go of. My first sport actually was swim. I hadn't officially started but I learned how to swim when I was 5yrs old. When I moved from Washington to South Carolina I hadn't finished all of my strokes. I wanted to finish up backstroke, butterfly, and breastroke. I joined the swim team on base though in South Carolina and got to learn all the strokes i hadn't finished in Washington. I competed to get ribbons and I competed to get faster times. When I had to move to California I continued to swim at the club team IBST. I had improved from when I was 5 to when I was 13. I have stopped because I discovered a new sport that I absoultely fell in love with. Any guesses? No? Okay, it was volleyball in 5th grade! Playing for the first time was just amazing. In 6th grade I had taught my self how to jump serve. My coach was impressed because I had no experience with jump serving and somehow when I saw my coach do it, I learned how to do it. It was just an amazing experience. I joined club volleyball called Bridge, and that was just an amazing experience. I got to play agianst really good teams and improve in my skills then I had back then. Now that I'm in high school there will be more competion with all the other schools. I'm so excited to play against Otay, Eastlake, Bonita, and Hilltop. The reason being is because alot of my friends go there from volleyball and I want to play against them :)! This is just the basics about how my life is really for a love of my sports! Besides sports though, I've been playing the piano for 9yrs now! I'm really proud of myself because even though it may be boring at certain times I can have fun playing any type of song I want. Right now I'm trying to memorize two songs both 4 pages, and I have to play a duet. I don't know if it is true or not but I think piano is the hardest instrument to play because of all the chords, how long a peice is for a song, the moveability of both hands on the pinao and I believe that's just about it. I would like to post of video, but I don't really have anything recent haha oh well. This is just about the big things in life that really touch or describe about me. I'm atheltic and I'm a muscian. :)

About Me

Hi! I'm Veronica. (: I'm 14, almost 15, and I love to listen to music. Some of the bands that I like are Black Veil Brides, Owl City, Sleeping with Sirens, and Paramore. I was born here in San Diego but moved to Japan for 4 years and then came back. I'm very fascinated with the Japanese (as well as Korean) entertainment. I really want to learn to play the drums, which is why I joined percussion. Even though they don't have drum sets, I still want to learn about other types of drums and percussion instruments. The drums is one of my favorite instruments. I know how to play the piano and some guitar and violin. Music has always been a part of my life, such as entertainment or when I'm having a bad day, etc. Somehow, it's always made me feel happy. I like to draw and read manga. I love food and I'm always hungry. Photography and painting are also part of my interests. I'm a shy person and it can be hard for me to start or keep a conversation going unless I'm very comfortable with the person.

Bio - Albert Lau

Hi, I'm Albert Lau and I'm a sophomore at OHS. I was born in Los Angeles where i lived till i went to second grade then moved to Chula Vista in third grade. I've never participated in anything that has to do physically to my body till i got to Olympian. I joined Track and Cross Country to get more fit. I started playing games since I was five when my dad first had games for me to play. It all began when i got the super Nintendo and ever since then I've been playing games now. I'm the type of person who doesn't need to get out and get fresh air from my house. I can stay all day in my house playing games. I have been playing this one online game called League of Legends for about 1-2 years now almost 3. Every break now i would sit down with food next to my computer and just play games for hours and not stop until my girlfriend talks to me(: . So yeah. No life. :D

Biography: Phoebe Chan

Hello! I'm Phoebe Chan, fourteen years old, and a sophomore at Olympian High School. I was born here in San Diego and have lived here my entire life. In fact, I haven't traveled very far from home at all. The only place outside of California that I've visited is Las Vegas. I currently live with my parents, my two rambunctious younger sisters, and my nine pets: two tiny, fluffy hamsters, a constantly anxious rabbit, and six baby goldfish. I don't like or dislike many things, but I do love a lot of things! I like to believe that there is light and hope in every situation and goodness in everyone's hearts. So really, I'm a bit of a hopeless optimist... I have faith in a lot of people, but not very much in myself. Since I'm a terrible perfectionist, I'm always working to improve myself and be the best that I can be, but I'm also working hard to gain more self-confidence! I'm a huge nerd and some people consider me "weird", but I've stopped caring about all the haters for the most part. In my free time, I enjoy singing, writing, reading, drawing, playing video games, watching anime, baking, gardening, and intelligent conversation. I have a weakness for anything and everything cute, especially flowers and small animals. My passion is singing. Ever since I was little, I've loved singing more than anything else in the whole world. I never believed that I could make it as a singer, so I gave up on my dream of becoming one for a long time. However, about five years ago, I watched an anime and fell in love with my favorite character of all time, Ranka Lee, who inspired me, along with her voice actress and my favorite singer Megumi Nakajima, to start working toward my dream again. Someday, I wish to sing professionally, basked in the warmth of bright light, on stage and bring joy to people through my music. This year, I am going to be the president of the Anime/Manga/Video Game (AMV) Club, and I am in advanced choir and beginning band. I hope to learn a lot from all my classes this year! One of my long-term goals is to eventually become valledictorian for the class of 2014!

Bio- German Soto

Hello there. I'm German Soto and I'm a Sophomore at Olympian High School. I was born on December 9th, 1995. I've lived in San Diego my entire life and one I come of age, I will travel. I am a member of the Academic Decathlon team and Academic League team. Academic Decathlon involves studying for around 8 months on 10 different subjects from math, science and economics. The Academic League involves specifying in a given area such as art or social science and studying about it. Then, we show off our knowledge by competing with other schools by using a buzzer system. Last year, we, the JV team, won 1st place in our division. We totally deserved that rank since we studied day and night and even had practice on Saturdays and during breaks. They're like my second family and they can always cheer me up during any time of day. Enough about that. I am a hardcore Harry Potter fan and I have been to every movie premiere there has been. I've read each book around 7 or 8 times. I lost count. After High School I plan to go to UCSD, UCLA, or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I either want to major in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Psychology, Business and Marketing, or something in the Medical Field. One of my life's goal is to learn at least 5 other languages. I already know Spanish and English and I plan to learn Italian, French, Portuguese, German, and Japanese. Once I get my career going, I plan to move to Italy.

Bio - Pia Yadao

Hello, I'm Pia Yadao, and I'm 15 years old attending OHS as a Sophomore. I was born in Los Angeles, but lived in the Philippines for the first 8 years of my life until we moved here to Chula Vista. Growing up, I always participated in various activities, such as ballet, karate, soccer, & lacrosse, but never really stuck to one thing. I guess I'm just the kind of person who likes to try different things. I was part of the school choir for both years in middle school, the girl's volleyball team in Freshman year, and now, as a Sophomore, I'm in color guard. Next year, I plan on taking Dance. I guess I just want to experience as much as I can, while I still can. I'm an overachiever; I always try earning straight A's, even though it doesn't happen all the time. I plan on attending UCSD and getting a degree in medicine. In the future, I also hope to be able to travel the world & gain new experiences.

Bio: Yvette Laguitan

Why hello there, my name is Yvette Laguitan. I am currently fifteen years old but turning sixteen in September. When you first meet me, I will be the kind of person that will be friendly and welcoming. But when you get to know me better, I will be the friend who just won't stop talking whether it's about how cute someone's shoes were or what my favorite song is at the moment (which is For The First Time by The Script, by the way). I can go on and on with introductions because I am a talker. But instead of writing a novel and sounding conceited, I would like to focus on my love for music. I like almost all types of music; if a song makes my ears want smile, then I love it. In my opinion, music is like the sister that God forgot to give me. Like an ideal sister, music can glue a smile on my face when the going gets tough, pump me up right before a volleyball game, calm me down when my two brothers annoy me, or mellow me out when I need a break. Plus the best part is, it doesn't come with the "hair-pulling catfights" or the "cute shirt stealing". Music does what I need for it to do, and when I want it to shut up, I simply press pause. Can you say perfect sister? I believe so. My point is, music is like the "mac" to my "cheese"; you just can't seperate the two. As a conclusion, I leave you with my favorite quote from the song Judge Not by Bob Marley, "Who are you to judge me and the life I live? I know that I'm not perfect and that I don't claim to be. So before you point your fingers, be sure your hands are clean." :)

Bio-Justin Simon

Hello, my name is Justin Simon and I'm a sophomore at Olympian High School. I was born in San Diego and have been here all my life. Sports have always been my favorite thing to do, especially Basketball. Basketball has been my favorite sport since I was about 8 years old. My dad first showed me the game of basketball and I have been playing it ever since. I have joined recreational leagues for basketball but I haven't played for a lot of school teams. My favorite player is a tall guard named Magic Johnson. He is most famous for his ability to run down the court and make insane passes. I also watch Basketball on T.V, the radio, or I get the scores on my phone. Other sports I watch are Football, College Football, and Baseball. Basketball has always help me to meet new people, and taught me new things about the game. My P.E. teacher told me that this year we are going to be doing a lot of team sports so I hope this year is a great one!

Bio

Hi guys. My name is Elle Dayrit, and these are my girls. I played freshmen volleyball at the school last year and we went UNDEFEATED! (Except we lost 1 game) I love playing volleyball because it's just a stress reliever and it's so much fun! I am going to try out for JV this year and I feel like I won't make it but I'll try to keep my head up. I have 5 dogs, 3 chihuahuas' and 2 pitbulls. If you haven't guessed, I love dogs. Being weird wherever and whenever is fun, especially when I'm in a serious situation. I'm Filipino, I have one sister, one brother, one mom, one dad. My brother is in the Air Force and right now he is stationed in Guam, I want to go there to visit him, but my mom won't let me. So, back to volleyball, I know a lot of people say that's so easy and everything but it can actually be as hard as any other sport. I love my freshmen team because my coaches were the absolute best! Also, my girls' always put a smile on my face, I miss playing games with them and one of my coaches, Coach Manny, because he was my bestfriend just older. Lastly, I would choose food over anything anyday. Ok. Bye. (:

Bio - Rachel Navarro

Hello! I'm Rachel Navarro! In summer of 2009, I played on a softball team in the Twin Hills Softball League. Our team name was Velocity, although no one on our team had great speed around the base path. That year we took 1st place and went undefeated the whole season, with the exception of one game. Last year, I played Varsity softball for Olympian High School. I was the starting third baseman as a freshman. We tied for first with Mar Vista High School, winning a co-banner. We played one CIF playoff game but unfortunately we lost. This year we get to play against schools that are more challenging because we're moving into the Mesa League. I can't wait until softball season starts up again!!

Biography: Daniel Fernandez

Hi, my name is Daniel Fernandez. I'm 5'9 and I like food, dinosaurs, and most of all, dancing. Recently, I joined a dance team called Olympian All Male. I haven't been dancing for a long time, so over summer, I've been practicing with them each day. Me and my friend both agreed in the beginning of freshmen year to try out. Unfortunately, he didn't get in, so I was introduced to a whole new group of people I didn't know. But as summer went by, I was able to meet them. Dinosaurs are also something I really love. For some reason I enjoy drawing fat dinosaurs. Well that's all, okay bye!

Biography-Micah Jae

Hi my name is Micah Jae Taitague Smith. As you can see I goto Olympian High School. I am very blessed to have my family members as staff and students at Olympian as well. Some family members I have that are here are Coach Fran Taitague, Coach Chris Castro (Both defensive coaches for our Varsity football team), Melanie San Nicholas, Nik (Puha), and Kevin Castro. I am a religous person and am very grateful to have God, my family, and friends. My main priorty is to become a better student, daughter, grandaughter, sister, and basketball player. I was raised in a family by both my parents and grandparents. I am taught to be respectful, responsible, and to be helpful to others. My family and basketball has made me what i am today. I have been playing basketball since age 6. I have always strived and persevered to being a good player and to develop skills that people will become impressed by because of my height! I am 5'3 and still growing (lol). As I was saying I was also raised to be competitive with all my friends and family. I will always be determined to keep my winning streak when playing my family my sport. Basketball to me is a passion, its what makes me, me. I play to relieve stress, to have time to think, and to try to stay on "track". Last year I was a lady eagle who played on the olympian girls freshman team. Although I was very determined to make it to varsity and sadly didnt, I still strived and persevered to do my best and was grateful to become apart of such a precious moment. By the end of the season our record was 13-0. We really couldnt have done it without our teamwork and our dedication and love we got from our coach, Bob Aguilar. At our banquet I tresaure the award and many special words Coach Bob said to me. I was grateful to have earned Best Offensive Player due to my average of 18 points per game. Coach Bob pretty much said to me that I was a goofball and always got in trouble for messing around, but when it came to game time, i was always there to support and help my team. He always said to me, " Your the quarterback, always setup the team, be the leader and help your team, don't mess around or they will follow. Be a good example to your team." I will always remember him and all his knowledge and skills he taught us about that truly helped me become a better player. As of last year I also played volleyball, although I wasn't very good, it was a good experience. This year I hope to play again and to become better this time. I also can not wait for BASKETBALL SEASON to come. My second family is the Varsity basketball team, although some of my "family" has graduated, we are still a family forever. This year my goal is to become a VARSITY lady eagle. I have been practicing non-stop literally. Hopefully all the hardwork pays off.. I will continue to strive and to become a better person all around. Whether it is me becoming a better player or becoming a more helpful MATURE family member, I will try my best. I am very blessed and thankful for who and what i have today.

I was born and raised here in Chula Vista but, my family and I moved a couple years ago into the San Diego area above the Cricket Amphitheater and Knott’s Soak City , which for some reason is considered San Diego. I live in my house with my two parents Joe and Monica Dieterle and my two year old Golden Retriever Bella , I’m an only child but I really don’t mind not having any siblings. I love to listen to music is very important to me even though I couldn’t sing or play an instrument to save my life, some of my favorite bands or artists are Maroon 5, The Scrpit, OneRepublic, The Plain White T's, and Lifehouse. In my free time I usually play softball, I was a part of the school’s junior varsity team and my position was right field, at the end of the season we were tied with Mar Vista High for league champions. And that’s all you need to know about me! Thank you for reading! And I apologize for the picture I have no idea why its sideways.

Sophmore Week

What can i say? Coming back to school from break to me was very exciting suprisingly, due to a good/bad vacation. I was very eager to come back welcomed by all my friends and basketball family. I very much enjoyed the week and was soon accustomed to the schedule and it was back to normal again. Aside from the long periods of time eager for each class to end and to be reunited with my fellow peers, my week with meeting all my new teachers and new classes was turning into a great, memorable time. The time I can say I treasured the most was being able to use one of the Academic Literacy Plan skills describe to get to know my new friend Emmie more. Emmie is a new Freshman by the way. I liked this experience in Medical Terminology with Mr. Malak. This was one of many good times I had this week with all the teachers and classes in which I will grow to love and remember in the future.

Educational Experience

My positive experience is when i was learning medical terminology and sport medicine it was fun learnig about that class and it fun to do the assingments because learn how to do cpr . It was fun to come to english class it was fun learnig english and listen to his stories that where funny .Anothere educational expeience was biology class how insect a frog that was disgusting but at the same time it was fun seeing the frog .that was my educational experience last year in olympian high school.

academic literacy plan

I think the Academic literacy plan is important for classes and 4 years for college
is very helpful. Some teachers knows how to make 3 habits and 6skils fun in class
and make it easy for class and better understanding . Some teacher dont know how
how to teach and makes difficult on us how to undestand it is easy whaen a teacher
knows how to explain alp.

First Week of School

Although I wasn't excited to go back to school, because of having to wake up so early and getting my sleeping schedule back on track, I was excited to get a new schedule. I wanted to see what new classes I'd have this year, what the teachers would be like, and what students would be in my classes. I really did end up liking my new classes and teachers, if any class stood out to me, it'd definitely be AP, considering it's my first AP class. It's something new and I feel like it's not only going to push me as a student, but also help me become a better one. My goal this year is to stay on top of my grades and do the best I can.

First week of sophmore year

aaaaa what can i say, freshman year went by so fast and vacation even more. i got used to waking up at 2 in the afternoon:P one thing that i like about my classes this year is that i am comfortable with my teachers and i feel no need to change any of my classes. Also, that i know most of the people in my classes so i dont feel lonely or shy. I have to admitt i miss my classes from last year and the people that were in them because we created so many memories and im guessing im not the only one who feels like this.

Bio- Brendan Gardiola

Hello folks, I'm Brendan Gardiola and I enjoy dancing. In the picture above, it shows me and the dance crew that I dance with. This was taken at San Diego's Best Dance Crew at Del Mar. We placed third place out of all the tough competition we went against. They call us Natural Vibes. We're a pretty diverse group; we have many different ethnicities within the group, we go to different schools, and our ages are widely varied. They've become like my second family. I always look forward to go to practices with them every Tuesdays and Thursdays at the YMCA and whenever we have performances. Although our facials can get really weird during performances, I know that we all have a good time just being able to do what we love and being able to do it with the people on the team. Dancing is a great way I relieve the stress I get from school and other things and I'm very thankful that I am able to be on Natural Vibes.

First Week of School.

Oh man, vacation went by too fast. My body became too comfortable to that laid-back lifestyle. Anyways, I was fairly excited to go back to school. I'm pretty satisfied with the classes that I'm taking and I got used to my schedule. I think the most frustrating part of the first week was trying to figure out how to work this blog. I finally figured it out though! Now that I've figured it out, its actually pretty interesting being able to write how we feel and all that cool stuff. I'm actually excited to see what we'll be able to do this year.

First week of school (:

In the first week of school I was only there on the first day. But from that first day I like most of my classes except for chemistry because my teacher isn't even there, and there is a lot of juniors and senoirs. I don't like it. Other than that I think my AP class is going to be hard because it's a lot of work, and I'm lazy. I'm glad I missed all the review on the habits of mind and what not. (: But, I did miss a lot of work in all my classes so that sucks. Ok. Bye. (:

My First Week of Sophmore Year - A New Adventure!

Vacation went by in the blink of an eye and before I knew it, I was back in school, about to embark on a fun, exciting new journey! Or, at least I hoped it would be. I thought the familiarity and sense of "home" at Olympian would provide me with a lot more comfort than last year, but I still stumbled in a little bit nervous, a little bit jumpy. However, that feeling was soon washed away by pure happiness and excitement! This year, all my classes and teachers are perfect! I've found that all of my teachers are not only very reliable and educated, but also hilarious and interesting as well. I was so satisfied with my classes, that I found this week to be almost unreal, as if in a dream. I've had so many fun educational experiences this week that I can't really decide which one I like the best. Was it learning about advocating for the arts in choir? Maybe it was reviewing algebra with Mr. Avason or learning about the ALP and meeting new friends in English? Perhaps it was doing a lab with isopods in AP biology or learning about PERSIAN charts in AP history in between all of Mr. Chico's jokes? I think out of all my experiences the first three days of sophmore year, my favorite educational experience was getting my very first flute in band and learning the basics of my new instrument. It was an exciting and wonderful experience, looking at and getting the feel of a new instrument. This year, I can't wait to have even more fun experiences and learn a lot in all my classes!

Bad First Impressions.....

The first week of sophomore year was definitely better than me freshmen year! I came to school knowing more people. I was comfortable with the layout of campus. I felt more confident in my role as a student, because I knew what to expect during the first week of school. For the most part, the first three days of school were great! However, there was a small incident that took place in my English class. I remembered that I hadn't completed a few problems for my next class.(math) As I began to finish my math problems, my English teacher saw me and pointed out my actions in front of my classmates as a perfect example of what NOT to do. Shortly after my embarrassing moment, the teacher asked each student to show his/her learning logs. To my dismay, I quickly realized that I had left my learning log at home! He came around to check and noticed I didn't have mine. He said something along the lines of, "Wow you're on a role today!" I was mortified and hoped that this wouldn't be my teacher's first impression of the type of student I'd be for the next year. (sorry Mr. Salazar)

Back to school! :)

The first three days of school were pretty average, but very interesting! I am disappointed with the fact that we have to resume school so early and the fact that I had summer homework for AP World History. But I am proud that I completed the assignment in time and that I actually learned during the summer. I was able to put my knowledge to action when my mom asked me about "karma" (the bad karma and the good karma). She basically asked what it was and what it meant, and I was able to not only explain to her what it was but also the origin and other background information about the term. All of this information I gathered from my summer assignment, which made me feel very accomplished and useful in the situation. It made me realize the importance and usefulness of reading and school. The situation sparked a greater desire for me to learn so much more this school year! :)

First Sophmore Week

Even though I wasn't looking foward to starting school again these three days were surprisingly pretty good. I liked my classes and hope I have a good time and yet also learn. I like the teachers I got and the way my classes were scheduled this made my week feel somewhat better. Some good experiences I had these days were meeting new people and making friends. These three days of school went by pretty good and I hope the rest of the year goes by the same way.

Beggining of Sophmore Year

Even though I wasn't too thrilled about going back to school, these first three days were interesting for me. I liked all my classes & schedule but there was one class in particular that stood out to me. It was Art in Ms. Exum's class. On the first day of school, she had us draw a bird that had an abundance of detail. At first I wasn't too fond of the assignment because I didn't know how well I could draw. Afterwards I was very amazed of my work. So she helped me realize my drawing was actually decent.

My First Week of School

I wasn't really looking forward to school since I was so used to the Summer Break. Well, my first week of school was mostly getting familiar with all of my classes. I was pretty happy with the classes I got. I learned that the Sophomore and Junior Year are the most important years in High School. This was kind of scary for me since I'm taking AP World History and it seems that it is my hardest class. I learned some of what I might be doing this year but I don't know if it's going to be a hard year for me. I think that I would have a good year if I put a large amount of effort in to my classes.
Although I was not quite looking forward to going back to school after 6 & 1/2 weeks of relaxation, it's exciting to start my 2nd year of high school & see how it will turn out to be. I am pretty much pleased with my classes & schedule; I really hope the counselors don't make any changes. The class that particularly stands out to me is my Intermediate Algebra class with Mr. Avasan. It reminded me of how much I liked learning Algebra in the 8th grade, despite how challenging it was for me. Now that I'm in Algebra 2, it's only going to become more difficult. But I look forward to that class, not only because of my interest in math, but also Mr. Avasan's humor that he presented to us these first few days I've had him as a teacher. He always cracked these jokes that made the whole class laugh. Not only is he funny, but he can teach well too. It was so easy for me to understand the lesson when he was reviewing with us, even though he was going at a fast pace. I hope to succeed in this class this year and attain that A that I'm aiming for.

First Week of Sophomore Year

The first week of sophomore year was great! I am really happy with my schedule for this year and for the most part satisfied with my peers in each class. Since I have now completed my recommended three years of a foreign language, this will be my first year with any other elective besides a science class. This year I've chosen dance since I took dance lessons for many years when I was little so that's one of the reasons why I am excited for the rest of the school year. (: On the educational side, I am also looking forward to the rest of my classes except p.e. because I feel like I have a really good set of teachers this year who can help me become a better student. The one class I am really looking forward to though is algebra with Mr. Avasan because in just the last week I've remembered things I forgot since algebra back in 8th grade, but I now understand them better as well. So hopefully this year will be as great as it seems!

My first week of school

The first week of school I was happy about and really energetic. I guess it was because I was excited to see what classes I have, who's in them, and most importantly who's my teacher. I was happy once I received my schedule and compared them to my friends and saw I had classes with some of them. An educational experience that I had was in my geometry class with Mrs.Collins. She showed my class the benefits of the online text book I didn't know that some one actually could reteach me the lesson on the computer in case I forgot what I am suppose to do for a homework assignment. I thought that was pretty cool because it's kinda like having a tutor right in front of your computer, helping you step by step, and with various examples.

Educational Experience

Being able to have a new schedule on the first week of school was pretty exciting. That means new teachers, rooms, and friends. One educational experience I had this week was in intermediate algebra. My teacher, Mr. Avasan, showed us the "beauty" of math in a power point that had a pattern of equations. Mr. Avasan was able to crack jokes and teach us something educational at the same time. Everyone in the class was laughing and having fun while having an educational experience. I like being able to have fun in a class and also learning something at the same time, and so I think my sophomore year is going to be exciting and fun.

The Beginning Of a Great Year

An experience that really stood out to me this first three days of school was the first day of school in Mr. Avasan's class. In that first day, he was showing us the beauty of math. He was explaining how math was beautiful... Like his face. That made everyone in the class laugh and it broke the ice. The rest of the class he was cracking jokes like there was no tomorrow. I then realized that math class was going to be fun and educational at the same time. This is going to be a great sophomore year!

The First Week of Sophomore Year!

After a good break, we all had to got back to reality of school. This week when we got back I experienced many things, positively and negatively. I didn't really like my schedule when I got it, not because of the people in the classes or the teachers but because how my classes were arranged. Last year I had 6th period PE and i'm so used to having PE at the end of the day but not i have PE 2nd, so i was really disappointed. I was also disappointed about having Spanish 5/6 in the end of the day instead of the beginning. After a day of total disappointment, in the second day of school, i started to see the brighter side of things. I realized that having PE 2nd period wasn't so bad. It isn't as hot as 6th period and i won't get darker (I'm kind of have sun-phobia, but not much. I just don't like getting dark.) and the bright side to having Spanish last, well i still haven't seen the bright side but I've been liking Spanish lately. My most favorite educational experience is learning with a positive attitude helps you learn better and get good grades! I learned this from my AP World teacher Ms. Hadi, who taught us that being positive helps us learn better. So everyday she wants us to say "Good Morning" to her and come to class with a positive attitude. I'm also using this method for my other 5 classes so i could learn better. The last thing I learned was that the whole year, I can't slack off or give up. I have to keep trying my hardest and keep everything balanced. Not just for a couple classes but all my classes so i can get good grades and succeed. So those are my educational experiences I've learn this week. The negatively things aren't really school related so I'm not going to say them. I'm sure throughout this whole year, we'll learn many other things that will help us become more sucessful. (:

Educational Experience

Over the break i was stressing alot about the classes i would be having cause i still wasnt sure if i was really up for AP but after the first day of school ended, i was really relieved that i understood what i needed to accomplish to get the grade i ache for. The first week of school was easy to get through yet i knew that i would have to work harder to get what i want. i've learned that i have to get ahead of my homework in APWH in order to not risk falling behind and to get that A, i have to work harder than usual.

My Educational Experience

The first 3 days as a sophomore were quite overwhelming yet exciting. I knew I wouldn’t be able take my classes lightly considering the fact that I have APWH, Honors, and Accelerated classes. I got the classes I wanted, I am pleased with the teachers I got, and relieved to be in classes where I know some peers. The expectations needed this year are so demanding and I can apprehend that there’s no time to slack off. I knew I would have to set my priorities and responsibilities straight. A class I look forward to would be Intermediate Algebra 2 Accelerated. Mathematics was never my strongest subject, but after being in Mr. Alvasan’s class, he reviewed and explained lessons that made algebra easier to understand. What I liked best about his class is that his humor made it more enjoyable. APWH isn’t a class to take for granted now that I see. It’s pressuring, at the same time beneficial. I would have to advance my skills in note taking and be an attentive listener to Ms. Hadi. On the negative side, I was not pleased to have 6 period PE. The 2nd day I was already considered tardy because I was a less than 10 seconds late after the bell which was not acceptable to Ms. Hernandez. Overall I see a school year full of many responsibilities, assignments that will be time consuming, and now I must strive hard for good grades.

ap biology first week experience

Over summer vacation I had to grow a tomato plant for my ap biology class, I also had to take pictures of its growth and record its progress. Halfway trough the vacation, two seedling sprouted. Some days later the seedlings started to wither and one broke off of the seed. As time passed, my plants were not growing and I was getting worried whether it would grow or not. The three days before school i knew my plants were dead because they weren't even plants even more, they just looked like some brown crumpled paper thrown into my pot. Finally it was the first day of school and i went tough all my classes meeting my new teachers. When it was time for my ap biology class i didn't know how the teacher would react since i didn't do my first project. When she asked me for evidence to show if I did my project I told her the truth, that my plant had died. After class she talked to me and said that i could have more seeds and that I should try again. I was relieved, the teacher understood that the plants had died and had given me another chance.

Don't Slack Off

After a relaxing summer break doing practically nothing, the first day of school came rolling in. Excited yet lazy, I came to school and caught up with some friends. When I got my schedule, I skimmed through what classes I had and went forward with my day. In my mind I thought, this school year is gonna be a walk in the park, just like freshman year. The second and third day of school came along and I was wrong. How ironic, right? I am a perfectionist. I like my notes to be neat and organized, but I can't do that when the teachers won't slow down. I rushed through my notes, barely keeping up as the teacher kept speeding up. My math review was a pain because I couldn't remember any of the work from last year and the teacher expected us to know it all without giving an in-class review lesson. In italian 3/4, my teacher spoke in all italian and no english, unlike freshman year. I had to ask my friend just to find out what the homework was. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't slack off in highschool, especially after freshman year when the teachers stop holding your hand through everything. I've learned now that my procrastination and lack of participation in class won't cut it here. From now on, I have to focus and work extra hard because I know I want to graduate and become the student that all the colleges dream of having in their school. :)

My First Week of School.

After 6 weeks of break, I couldn't wait to enter school again. Doing nothing throughout the whole break made me miss school. Since it was going to be a whole new year, I couldn't wait to see who my classmates and teachers were going to be. But now that I have gone to school for a whole week, I've noticed that it's all the same. The only thing that's different is that it's going to be a little more challenging than Freshmen year. The only positive thing that happened to me was that I don't have classes with loud peers and it looks like my teachers actually know what they're doing. Another positive experience was my small reunion with the Academics team. I haven't seen any of them in 3 weeks and they always know how to make me laugh.

Educational Experience 7/21

An educational experience I enjoyed the first week of school was in my 6th period, Drama Class. The activity the teacher made the students do was a partner-interview. My partner and I had to ask each other 8 questions about ourselves. For example, "What is a special quality about yourself?". Another part I liked about this activity was that we actually had to introduce our partner to the whole class! I loved this, because I am an auditory learner. When I listen to someone speaking, I learn concepts a little better. Yes, I did have to write the answer to my partner's questions down, but I did not write a lot, because I had it all memorized in my head. During my introduction of my partner, I actually spoke more than I wrote. I was not holding the paper I wrote the answers down in my hand when I presented. My eyes were looking forward, to the students in the class, as well as the teacher. It was a very fun educational experience.

My Educational Experience

The first week was a great way to start off sophomore year! One experience I enjoyed a lot was in AP world history because of her style of teaching and because the class had a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. Another experience I enjoyed was in AP biology because we have already started the labs. Ms. More makes the class very interesting and fun! I also enjoyed math analysis because math is my favorite subject! I'm hoping this year will turn out great!

Tuesday

On the second day of school in my second period, percussion ensemble, I had a great experience. I was able to learn how to correctly hold a drum stick from some of my new friends. I was nervous, as well as my friend who is also new at drumming, but then I was told by experienced students that our whole class is a team and we are all family. If we messed up they wouldn't care. If any one of us cries, then we all cry. That made me feel more confident and happy that I'll have friends there for me whenever i need them. This class was really fun that day, and i really look forward and hope for a wonderful school year.

Academic Literacy Plan

How effective is the Academic Literacy Plan?  I am told to teach systematically and I believe this is the best way for an entire school to teach a set of 6 skills and 3 habits to a school that has over 1800 students.  Others may argue that this systematic approach of teaching inhibits a teacher's creativity within their classroom or does it?
Mr. Salazar
