Controversial School Policy: Music

Whether its your Ipod or MP3 player anytime it leaves the safety of your backpack and goes into veiw of the teacher your bound to get it taken away. And that is because Olympian has a no Ipod or MP3 player in class policy, but its perfectly okay to have them outside of class but the minute you step in to door it has to be put away. I can understand why not allowing them while a teacher is teaching to the class, because you could everyone would simply tune out the teacher. But why not be able to use them while doing independent work? It could possibly work as a way to keep the room quiet rather than having to threaten the students with some sort of punishment for them to quiet down and it could potentially help us concentrate on the work. Also, haven't there been studies that show when children listen to music it helps them learn? So it wou;dn't be a distraction it could be a tool.
