Should there be a law for helping those in need?

Imagine being in a situation where you are cornered by some teenagers from a gang, and they are verbally and physically threatening you. You see someone walk by, and signal for help. They just look at you. You can see them analyzing the situation in their head, but they just walk away after a while. It’s not their problem; they don’t want to risk getting hurt by getting involved. And there you are, left to face the group of violent teens on your own.

A law should indeed be created, stating that we must help others in need. This is because so many people tend to just walk away from a conflict if it does not involve them. However, they could easily assist in putting a stop to the problem, or help solve it. It is not like a person would actually have to become personally involved in the conflict they happen to see going on, like stepping in between a mugger and an old lady to save her. The least someone could do would be calling for help if they themselves could not help the person in need. It really does not take much effort to make a phone call, or find someone around you to help out. Yet, people do not do it, because it’s not their problem. However, as we are all part of the same community, if someone sees someone else in need of help, then it should become their problem as well. While this should be common sense and courtesy, people tend to overlook these things, because apparently, if it does not involve them, then why bother? Even If it does not involve you though, it is still the right thing to do… to help out in anyway you can. You could help someone out just by making a quick phone call to 911, finding someone else to help, or stepping into the conflict yourself. Whichever one seems best suited to the situation. You could possibly save a life, or at least put a smile on their face. With a law enforcing this good Samaritan policy, it will make for a much safer and close community.
