Controversial School Policy - Bullying

A controversial school policy that greatly stands out to me is the bullying policy. While bullying has been outlawed and you can now be arrested from doing so, it is still a huge problem. Bullying can practically happen anywhere, but school is a primary source. While teachers and other staff try their best to handle this issue, many bullying incidents still occur. Some main targets of bullying are LGBT students, “nerds”, “geeks”, “loners”, along with others. Athough, in reality, anyone can be subject to bullying, no matter the age, gender, ethnic group, etc... No one should be allowed to constantly ridicule someone just because of who that person chooses to be, or the way they were born. Nor should anyone be cruel enough to even consider doing so. Some people believe that it’s not a big deal –or that it is just another part of growing up– but it is in fact a huge deal. While some people are callous towards bullying, others are not. Bullying can harm a person physically and emotionally for a period of time, but it can go further than that. It can scar them, and affect their lives till they die. There have been many cases in which students have committed suicide due to excessive bullying. Now answer me this, do you want to be the one to cause the death of someone? It is all so abstruse.

I think that it is very unlikely that bullying will cease to exist entirely, unless if a drastic change in human society occurs, and everyone learns how to respect one another, but that does not mean that we can not go to further extents to control it. It would be pragmatic if both teachers and students could keep an open eye for bullying, and try to stop it immediately, no matter how insignificant it may be. It is better to stop the bullying in it's early stages before it becomes a large problem. Other than that, we just have to continue to prevent bullying as best as we can.
